Arctic Sea Ice Feature Detection

Abstract

Sea ice is a barrier between the warm air of the ocean and the atmosphere. So when cracks develop in the sea ice, warm air is then released into the atmosphere which impacts the Earth’s energy balance. The overarching goal for this project is to determine where sea ice cracks may develop using only the movement data of the ice sheet. In this presentation I will present our method for finding cracks by clustering like movements of the trajectories.
